Mark Lanegan comes back with special performance in May!

One year after the last and sold out concert in the Lucerna Music Bar is the American singer Mark Lanegan coming back to Prague – “the voice of god”, how is colleagues are calling him. But this concert will be totally different. Until now, he showed his audience “only” the rock part, either with The Gutter Twins or with the Mark Lanegan Band. This time instead, you will hear and see him unplugged, only his voice with a discreet guitar background. Even this is his strong side, it is already a long time ago you could here him like this. He will perform hits from his solo albums (the first were re-released before Christmas under Sub Pop with the name One Way Street), but also classics from Screaming Trees and Desert Sessions (later published on the album Songs For The Deaf from Queens of The Stone Age) and his latest collection Imitations. Mark Lanegan will be accompanied by guitarist Jeff Fiedler and special guest will be the British singer/songwriter Duke Garwood. The Lucerna Music Bar will be special prepared for this special evening, the most space is for sitting and the capacity is very limited.

Over the past 20 years, Mark Lanegan has left a distinctive mark on the contemporary rock scene. Between 1985 and 1996, he served as the vocalist and front man for the Screaming Trees, a trend-setting grunge band from Seattle. Beginning in 1990 he launched an overlapping solo career, creating thoughtful, singer-songwriter material deeply influenced by the blues. Reviewers have often noted the prowess of Lanegan’s vocals, alternately described as grainy and sublime, as well as his ability to deeply embody his carefully penned lyrics. The singer, however, like many of his friends from the Seattle grunge scene, faced a plethora of personal demons as he worked to achieve his artistic vision.

In the last years he released dark electronic albums like Blues Funeral and Phantom Radio and the extraordinary collection with cover versions Imitations. He recorded and performed with bands like Mad Season, Queens of the Stone Age, The Twilight Singers, UNKLE and many others, many albums he released with the band Soulsavers and the singer Isobel Campbell. With his friend Greg Dullim, the front man of The Afghan Whigs, he is The Gutter Twins.

The last concerts of his last tour he opened with unplugged songs accompanied by guitarist Jeff Fiedler. The audience was so excited about it, that they decided to go on a tour alone. In this constellation he performed a whole concert many years ago and it is not sure, if this is happening soon again. This evening will be very special. Special guest is Duke Garwood. In 2013 they released the album Black Pudding together and Mark Lanegan produced last year Garwood’s own collection Heavy Love.
