Arrested Development, a legend of hip-hop’s golden age, is coming

American legends Arrested Development are returning to Prague. These pioneers of alternative hip hop, who in the early ’90s completely shattered preconceptions about what rap could sound like and what it could be about, will perform on September 17 at the Lucerna Music Bar.

At a time when mainstream hip-hop was dominated by aggression and gangster aesthetics, Arrested Development brought a completely different energy—a mix of rap, soul, funk, gospel, and Afrocentric influences that, instead of bragging, addressed identity, spirituality, community, and social issues. And that’s exactly how they made their mark on music history.

Their debut album, *3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Life Of…*, catapulted the band into the ranks of the most influential acts of their generation. Hits like “Everyday People,” “Mr. Wendal,” and “Tennessee” remain classics of ’90s hip-hop to this day and earned the group two Grammys as well as cult status for a band that managed to blend rap with a live band and immense concert energy.

But Arrested Development isn’t just a nostalgic throwback to the MTV era. The band is still active, releasing new music, and their concerts still deliver exactly what you’d expect from such a legend—a live band, groove, charisma, and an atmosphere that transforms the club into one big dance party within minutes.

An evening for everyone who grew up during the golden age of rap, but also for those who want to experience why Arrested Development holds such a prominent place in music history.
