Yasiin Bey is coming to Prague, better known as Mos Def – one of the most successful rapper in history; one of the most successful rapper right now. One of few, who is also a successful actor. Mos Def is coming to the LMB already next week on the 24th of October. Yasiin, Yasiin,… Who?… Oh yes, alright. Let’s try it with his original pseudonym. Dante Smith is as Mos Def on stage already since 1996. In the late 90s, when the underground hip hop was at its top, he signed with Rawkus Records and became on of their stars. In the time, when R’nB was a nasty word, he dared to put gentle melodies under his rap. And he did not just get away with it, no, they loved him for it. The same happened in the movie world. It looks like he is good in whatever he touches. Because he didn’t start his movie career as one of the tuff rappers, who are playing either “himself”, the “fictive rapper”, or “the king of the drug scene”. He had his first role in “God Bless The Child”, when he was 14. He played in different sitcoms, also with Bill Cosby and that long before he knew he could rhyme. After he got attention also for his musical work, he got the interesting movie offers and he played in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, The Italian Job, Be Kind Rewind, Cadillac Records, The Woodsman, Something the Lord Made, Next Day Air, 16 Blocks next to Bruce Willis and in Dexter. He got nominated for an Emmy, Golden Globe, Image Award and Black Reel Award….. Means: Yasiin Bey is neither a playing rapper nor a singing actor. He is a rapper and an actor. And he is good in both.
The third field, where Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def is different to his competition: he has also been active in several social and political causes. He just bought a book store in Brooklyn. Why? For sure not for business reasons. But because it seems important to him that people read. He is talking in public about racism and other important topics. And to make a statement about the scandalous situation in Guantanamo Bay, he just puts himself into the position of a prisoner, to show the world, what is going on in our society. The suggestive video of the organization Reprieve for human rights was published by the British Guardian.
It took the icon Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def 17 years to come to Prague. He is finally coming on the 24th of October to the LMB, presented by Mighty BOOMBOX. Maybe it is the only possibility to see him live, you better don’t miss it. Tickets are available for 650CZK at this page or at the cash desk of the LMB (without fee) or at Ticketpro, Ticketportal, Eventim and Ticketstream (+fee).
