This Thursday is the very talented reggae singer Gappy Ranks coming, the voice of European urban music! He will show us, how reggae, dancehall and hip hop can go together. His family has roots in Jamaica, but he grew up in the streets of London, where he made in the beginning of 2010 contact with the famous label Greensleeves Records. Here his first album “Put the stereo on” came out. In this particular time he was supported by the producer and owner of the label Peckgings and they started to release new songs on old reggae riddims, e.g. “Studio One”. The song “Heaven In Your Eyes” became a #1 reggae hit in Great Britain and got Gappy a spot in the big radios. From this time on he became a star in the reggae and dancehall scene all over the world, producer even from Jamaica and the States want to work with him. His second album “Thanks and Praise” came out one year later, this time on his own independent label Hot Coffee Music. There you can find hits like „Stinkin Rich“, „Could A Run Away“ or „Longtime“.
Gappy Ranks has since toured and performed throughout Europe, USA, West Indies, Australasia and not to mention his trip to Japan on March 2011 where he found himself in the middle of the worlds biggest earthquake and tsunami. The disaster claimed over 20,000 lives in which Gappy Ranks recorded his tribute „I Was There“. Gappy Ranks has also wore the hat as producer on a number of project though his independent record label Hot Coffee Music and has produced for recording artist such as Gyptian, Chino, Busy Signal, Delly Ranx, Bugle, Khago, Bramma, Laden, Bobby Hustle, JBoog, Chucky Star and many more including Reddman Uk, who Gappy Ranks signed to his Hot Coffee Music Label in 2011.
He is one of these good examples that show us, that with hard work you can get yourself everywhere. He knows what he is singing about, he made his way out of the ghetto and is with this message a good example for the next generation: “Read more, education is a good thing and helps you in life. It is never too late to learn something new.” He will be with his new EP “Cookies” on tour through the states again, but before that he comes for the first time with his band Soul Rebel to Prague!
For sure he will give us a sneak peek of his upcoming third album “Shining Hope”, which comes out in September. One single is already out “Tomorrow Loves You”. You can use the ticket from the Anthony B concert, which didn’t happen. Anthony is by the way still in the States, unable to travel to Europe. Gappy Ranks is a hell of a good alternative for this concert, for sure you won’t regret it!
