Editors are a British alternative band from Birmingham, which was found in 2002. Previously known as Pilot, The Pride and Snowfield, the band consists these days of Tom Smith (lead vocals, guitar, piano),Russell Leetch (bass guitar, synthesizer, backing vocals), Ed Lay (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Justin Lockey (lead guitar), and Elliott Williams (keys, synthesizers, guitars, and backing vocals). Two of their three released studio albums got platinum status, selling over several million copies worldwide. Their debut album The Back Room was released in 2005 with the hits “Munich” and “Blood”. In the following year they were nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. In November 2010 Smith announced the work on a new album. “The Weight of Your Love” is their fourth studio album, which will be released on 1st of July. The first single of the album is “A Ton of Love”.
It is the first album without Chrise Urbanowicze, who left the band in April 2012. According to the band, he left due to a difference in musical direction, but they are still friends. Tom Smith says: “I was long time talking about my love to American bands like R.E.M. or Acrade Fire and this is a sound, which you can find in our new songs. It feels like we’re more sure of ourselves, more muscular. The record feels untouchable at times, I’m really quite surprised at what we’ve achieved”.
The album was most of the times recorded live. Tom Smith said, he “is with one food in the alternative American sound and the lyrics are for lovers. But the songs are not that typical love songs”. The album was produced by Jacpuire King and mixed by Craig Silvey. The band was also working with Flood, who produced the albums “In This Light and on This Evening”.
The Editors will present their new album also to the Czech audience, on 6th of October 2013 in the Lucerna Music Bar. The support band is the band Balthazar from Belgium.
