10 reasons why not to miss Monday’s concert of Steel Pulse

steel_theband_170x1701) This legendary British band Steel Pulse is working already for 37 years, but this concert is the first in the Czech Republic. And they are not only a British reggae legend, but belonging to the crème de la crème in the whole world.

2) Their beginnings were connected to the organization Rock against Racism and the punk scene. In 1978 they went on tour together with The Stranglers, XTC, The Clash and The Police (Sting) as the only “black band” to support the fight again racism. You can find out about it in the movie Babylon (1980).

3) They are timeless. You can not only hear the reggae beat, but also funky riffs, rock guitars and a bit of punk; all this combined in their original sound.

4) Steel Pulse was the favorite band of the reggae king Bob Marley. They went on tour together in 1978 and some critics they, that their show was even better.

5) Since their existents Steel Pulse is fighting for justice. Front man David Hinds explains: “Without love there is no justice. Without justice is no peace.”

6) Steel Pulse is the only British reggae band winning a Grammy for their reggae album Babylon The Bandit (1985). Two more times they were nominated for the album Victims (1991) and Rastafari Centinnel (1992), which was released for the 100th anniversary of the Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie.

7) In 1989 they worked together with the movie director Spike Lee on the soundtrack for Do The Right Thing. Not only Spike Lee is a fan of Steel Pulse, but also Sting and Matt Groeing, the maker of The Simpsons – you can hear them in one of the episodes.

8) You find on their last album African Holocaust (2004) features with the African Tiken Jah Fakoly, Jamaican Capleton and Damian Marley, with whom they have the timeless hit “No More Nuclear Weapons”. The album is full of protest and spiritual songs, e.g. a warning against Global Warning or the Bob Dylan classic “George Jackson”.

9) Also today Steel Pulse is dedicated to support, where it is needed. After the tragic earthquake in 2010 in Haiti, they released the song “Hold on 4 Haiti”; they donate the earnings to 100% to solar panels for a hospital. The song can be downloaded exclusively at www.holdon4haiti.org.

10) Steel Pulse is coming on Monday for the first time to Prague. This concert will be a live time experience – you never know, when you get the chance to hear them again.
