Patrick Wolf brings a new folklore-inspired album to Prague

British musician Patrick Wolf returns to Prague! On Tuesday, June 4, he will present his long-awaited album Crying The Neck. The album reflects deeply personal themes inspired by loss but also by renewal, and most importantly by the folklore and landscape of East Kent.

After more than a decade, Patrick Wolf comes through with a new studio album that interweaves themes of personal tragedy, renewal and a deep connection with the landscape. The album was recorded in Wolf’s studio in Ramsgate and its title refers to a traditional harvest ritual. It represents the first part of a planned four-part series reflecting the cycle of the seasons. The album features contributions from artists such as Zola Jesus and Serafina Steer, and among the tracks, the emotive single Dies Irae stands out, inspired by Gregorian chant and the last days of Wolf’s mother.

Patrick Wolf is known for his eclectic music, combining folk, electronica and classical elements. After turbulent years of personal crisis and artistic hiatus, he returned in 2023 with The Night Safari EP, which kicked off his new musical era. Crying The Neck showcases Wolf’s ability to turn pain into hope and find beauty even in life’s difficult moments.
The album is deeply rooted in the British landscape and mythology. Wolf drew inspiration from the Celtic lunar calendar and ancient rituals, which adds a narrative dimension to the record. A variety of tracks appear on the album, reflecting exactly what type of musician Wolf is. For example, Hymn Of The Haar was born as Wolf faced the harsh realities of the contemporary world, while The Last Of England pays homage to the Derek Jarman film and reflects on the contradictory beauty of England.

Don’t miss Patrick’s return, already announced by his performance at Kasárna Karlín last year, and the live launch of his new album!
