After more than three decades on the scene, British band Ride is still at the forefront of shoegaze and alternative rock. Along with My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, they are one of the seminal names of the genre that changed the face of guitar music in the early 1990s. Their debut album Nowhere (1990) is now considered a cult album and an example of how noise can be combined with melody, intensity with subtlety. But Ride have never stuck to a single pigeonhole – their work spills over from dreamy shoegaze to Britpop to a more raw guitar sound.
In 2015, the band returned to the stages and have since been enjoying a second creative period that is definitely not just a nostalgic look back. Their new LP Interplay (2024) offers fresh material that loses none of the feel of their earlier recordings, but also shows that Ride can still evolve. The sonically sophisticated tracks with their signature reverbs, hypnotic rhythms and melancholic vocals prove that Ride still know what they’re doing.
On their upcoming tour, Ride will also stop in Prague and offer a cross-section of their rich discography – from shoegaze anthems to imaginative Britpop to new songs that resonate well with today’s times. Don’t miss out!
