after Kaliyuga Sound

There are only a few British bands of such influence and complex legacy as Transglobal Underground. They have reunited after a few years and are going to tour in the original formation including Natacha Atlas.

How could we best describe Transglobal Underground? For 25 years it has been a DJ/band, founders of global fusion, an energetic band famous for their concerts, a techno sound system, a pop band, a club night, a production team of Middle East hits, an improvised study band of Indian classical music, an Albanian brass band, a duo – or was it eight of them?

It all started when musicians, singers, DJ’s, authors and sample fanatics that worked in crowded premises of Nation Records in West London came together. Primitive computers were going full throttle, turntables and cassettes were cooking club grooves, dub, bhangra, rock, digital hardcore and oriental melodies, people were relying on inspiration and enormous faith that something new will come out of this. The first fruit of this effort was a single Temple Head, a song inspired by British bhangra scene, one foot in Manchester and the other on the club scene. The album debut TGU Dream of 100 Nations got into TOP 40 and their live concerts, then with Natasha Atlas, were being praised. A vocalist singing in Arabic, doing belly dances and jumping over cables on the stage in high heels was then unprecedented in the UK.

The rise of festivals, their 2007 album Moonshout which received BBC World Music Award, and touring North America, India, South Africa, Kazakhstan, Venezuela and other places has made them a global sensation.
