The singer Alice Francis showed us last year, that she deserves the title “first lady of electro-swing”, when she sold out the Lucerna Music Bar. On Thursday 23nd of October the wonderful artist is coming back and is presenting us not only a great show, but also very new songs from her upcoming album.
Alice Francis has her roots in Rumania and is making music already since she is 14 – playing in different bands, recording in the studio and even producing. Her partner in music crime is Goldielocks, which she met in a small bar in France. They aren’t content with cannibalizing supposedly exotic or otherwise out-in-left-field sound samples, dissected and desiccated in a storm of state-of-the-art producer’s party pieces. This is not about aimless mix’n’match: Cab Calloway crossover and Bix Beiderbecke big beat can safely be left to others. Goldielocks and Alice Francis are subtler, more thorough, more authentic. Fusion, not collage. The two of them blend the spirit of yesteryear with the finish of today – giving themselves the best of both worlds.
The debut album St. James Ballroom, with hits like Shoot Him Down, Gangsterlove and St. James Ballroom, was released in 2012 and was a great success. Even electro-swing guru Parov Stelar asked for a remix of the single Shoot Him Down. The next album is planned for next year.
When asked about the concert in Prague Alice says: “For our Czech fans we are planning to play many new songs. The concert in Prague last year was one of the best we ever had, so we can’t wait to come back to this beautiful city.”
