The British post-jazz collective Submotion Orchestra is not the first time in Czech Republic; they have already many fans here, which can not wait to see them again on the 5th of November in the LMB. The band from Leeds with the jazz pro Tommy Evans and bass player Chris Hargreaves is on tour through Europe, with one stop in Prague. They will not only play their hits from last year’s album Fragments, but also new track from the upcoming album. Submotion Orchestra is one of the most interesting and exciting projects working in the UK today. Drawing upon electronica, soul, ambient electronica, jazz and dub, their unique music is at once delicate and heavy, spacious and dense, highly atmospheric but firmly rooted. Earth-shaking bass and drums combine with lush keyboard and trumpet textures to create the perfect bed for the fragile beauty of Ruby Wood’s vocals, and the celestial effects of producer Ruckspin. Demand for the band has never been greater as their reputation for staging one of the most exciting shows around grows with each appearance they make.
The different music genres come together because of the players in the band: the head of the band Tommy Evans played in reggae and jazz bands, drummer Danny Templeman is influenced by the Latin-American style and bass player Chris Hargreaves loves soul and hip hop. The successful albums Finest Hour and Fragments are combining orchestral jazz, sophisticated broke beat, film ambient and dub.
