Not many dance and electro bands from continental Europe have gained such reputation as Kraak & Smaak from Holland, coming to Lucerna Music Bar on 7th November. The trio comprising of Oscar de Jong, Mark Kneppers and Wim Plug started this project fifteen years ago and draw interest by their natural flow between pop and dance underground, funk and electro. The bands name meaning “Crunchy & Tasty” in Dutch is basically a description of the creators’ intent. Some time ago they confirmed this in an interview for Techno.cz: By this we describe what we are attempting. Delicate music with raw edge. One foot in underground, the other in mainstream. Naturally, we want to be original. We are not completely dance. We aspire to create both dance floor house music and songs for common listening. But everything needs to sound like Kraak & Smaak so that people can say: ‘Oh yeah, it’s them.’ However we don’t need to hold on to any genre.”
A prestigious British magazine IDJ ranked Kraak & Smaak among “bands you need to see live” alongside such names as Chemical Brothers or The Prodigy. Kanye West or an American blogger Perez Hilton are some of their fans. The band have twice played Glastonbury festival, the Dutch Lowlands, SXSW in Texas, Coachella, WMC in Miami or CMJ in New York. The’ve been around the world but they don’t hide their weakness for Central and East Europe where their audiences are most spontaneous and joyful. In November you too can enjoy such amazing night.
