With a sharp tongue and elegant rhymes California’s Open Mike Eagle is one of the prime representatives of “art-rap”. After the unforgettable performances of Young Fathers and Shabazz Palaces in previous years, the Strings of Autumns continue their exploration of contemporary hip-hop. This year’s representative of the genre is the Californian artist Open Mike Eagle. Eagle’s last album Brick Body Kids Still Daydream has been acclaimed as his most powerful recording yet, and Rolling Stone included it among its 50 Best Albums of 2017. The music is a political yet deeply personal elegy for the recently demolished housing estate in Chicago where the rapper grew up. This will be the Czech public’s first opportunity to discover Eagle’s alternative hip-hop style, with its characteristic easy-going flow and lyrical flights of fantasy.
