Algires, a four-piece band from Atlanta, US, will return to the Lucerna Music Club almost exactly a year after their last gig here. Their two previous albums have received an unprecedented response among fans and music critics alike and Algiers also recently released an audiovisual novel “Can the Sub_Bass Speak?”
It was created in cooperation of the band and production duo Randall Dunn and Ben Greenberg (Jóhann Jóhannsson’s Mandy Soundtrack, Sunn O))), Uniform). It combines offensive language and free jazz collage by ALGIERS multi-instrumentalist Frank James Fisher, saxophone pioneer Skerik and drummer D’Vonne Lewis, all accompanied by avalanche of visuals by award-winning filmmaker Sam Campbell and typographer Farbod Kokabi. The work was inspired by a chance encounter with artist Moor Mother and duo Harrga at Wysing Polyphonic in 2018. “Can the Sub_Bass Speak?” leads the post-punk ALGIERS with deconstruction of race and class sonic policies in a new direction of collaboration with other artists.
By announcing their solo UK and European tour, Algiers also suggest, there might be a new album coming up in 2020.
